Mein Schnappfinger / My snapping finger

Since a few month I have him and as far I could live with him pretty well. Who don't know what a snapping finger is, should be happy. The name is program: The finger is no longer moving smoothly, but snag in the middle and after this just jumps forward. It's not especially painful, but inconvenient. It can't heal on it's own and has the tendency to go badder or gets stiff. For this reason I had an operation last Monday.

Meine liebe Hand
My dear hand
I had underestimated the whole thing, that's for sure. I always spoke about a small operation. The doctor had told me that I need recovery time about 2 - 6 weeks, but obviously this went through one ear in and straight the other one out.
Monday was a bad day. When in the late morning the anesthesia vanished I was honestly thinking about biting in  the table. I began to realize, that eventually I really will need more than 2 weeks to recover. To keep calm belongs to the things I'm really bad at. But I promised myself to take this serious. One of my biggest problems was the bandage. It was tight and looking at it made me feel extra sick. At the check-up I told the doctor that my hand has claustrophobia and he said, before I get mad I should remove him. I removed him and a swollen hand appeared in a yellow/green/blue color. Thick and immobile fingers and it felt naked and vulnerable. So I took a colorful scarf and wrapped my hand in it. Suddenly I was happy and relieved: 1. I can choose the fitting color to the rest of my outfit. May be this sounds trivial, but for my mind this is very important. And my psyche has a lot to say about my healing. 2. My hand was packed. Even when I hit something with it it's save. 3. I can change it and wash it as often as I want!

Sabine wird ausgeführt
We take Sabine for a walk
Anyway I had organized that the paddock will be cleaned at least 2 weeks. But in the morning and in the evening I bring them to their meadow and back to the paddock in the night. At the beginning I really was catching my breath and was happy when I was back at my sofa. Now all seems normal again, and this morning I decided to walk a small tour. My hand was thickly packed and was vanished in the sleeve, so that I was not able to use it.
My hairy men were friendly and peaceful with me. At some time I had the impression as if they walked me.

Slowly slowly it is getting better, but far from using my hand. Sometimes I'm frustrated. But it is also a lesson in the appreciation of the own intactness. It's just 'one' hand which I'm not able to use for a short time. In my case it's age-related, again something to chew on it ...

  1. How wonderful that doctors can fix these things which may seem small but which really affect us in our daily lives. Glad you on the mend.
